This recipe was my mother in-law’s, but now it is definitely mine. I never make any other pie crust. This is absolutely delicious, and it is very easy to work with.
Mema found this recipe in the local newspaper ( I think Houston's). There is usually leftover crust. That's the best part. What you (and the kids) don’t eat raw, roll out and cut into strips. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Bake on a cookie sheet. Delicious!!
3 cups flour
1+ teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
6+ tablespoons cold water
1 teaspoon white vinegar
Mix first 3 ingredients with fork until crumbly.
Add remaining ingredients.
Stir well.
Form into 3 balls (2 if making deep dish pie).
Chill. (I usually skip this part)
When ready to make pie, roll out and place in pie pan.
Bake according to pie's instructions.
Crust may be frozen as a ball, or rolled out and frozen flat.
