This is a family favorite. I remember when I was little, the whole family would get involved making it. One of us would cut the tomatoes, another the lettuce, etc. If you really want, you can eat it with taco shells, but the best way is to put a layer of Tostitos on your plate, top those with the taco meat, then cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and if you must onions and sour cream. Yum! Yum!
This is a great one to make ahead and freeze. I usually quadruple the recipe. I figure that as long as the kitchen is going to be a mess, I might as well make it worth it. Then, on those nights that I don't have time to cook, there's a great meal in the freezer.
1 pound ground meat (browned and drained)
1/3 cup chopped onions
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
8 oz. tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon red pepper
1 teaspoon vinegar
Mix in large skillet. Simmer at least 30 minutes.
