It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. A year ago today I was helping to plan my 4th son’s wedding. A year ago today I learned that my brother had been shot and killed at his workplace. Joy over a bright beginning for the young couple was overshadowed with the ending of the life of a vibrant, enthusiastic, fun-loving, father/son/brother/husband.
Life is so hard. I don’t know how people who do not believe in God handle the stress and disappointments that come at one time or another to all of us. In an instant, everything we know can change. The recent storms in the Nashville area are proof that anyone at any moment may find themselves on the other side of eternity. We all will eventually get to this point. We don’t know when. We don’t where. We don’t know how. So we must prepare ourselves by living our lives for God. Dig into His word to find out what it is that pleases Him because as my brother has found out and as those who did not survive the tornadoes in Tennessee have found out, pleasing God is ALL that matters.
So enjoy the good times. Celebrate the new beginnings of a young couple getting married a baby being born or someone becoming a Christian. These beginnings are the things that bring such joy to us all. But remember that this life on earth is not all there is. We will be required to stand before God the Creator — all of us, whether we believe in Him or not. Take advantage of the time you have been blessed with and use it to serve Him because in the end, He is all that matters.
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:20 NKJV
